Course Outline

This Acting & Theatre Performance PLC course is designed to provide professional training to enable the student with strong acting techniques and performance skills to pursue a career in theatre, television and film, or continue to further education at third level.

The course has numerous unique features; specialised acting & vocal workshops from professional practitioners, guaranteed Acting roles in films & links with casting agencies., weekly theatre visits & guests, various public theatre performance opportunities in established professional venues such as Nuns Island Theatre & Druid Lane Theatre, Galway.

There is an opportunity within the course to complete the following optional courses awarded by the Irish Board of Speech and Drama for an additional fee. IBSD Diploma examinations provide a rigorous test of knowledge, technical expertise and interpretive skills, and are oriented to the needs of those who wish to become professional drama practitioners or who wish to teach speech, drama and communications as a career.

Entry Requirements

QQI Level 4, minimum of 17 years of age at time of registration, Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied, Equivalent qualifications from other countries, relevant life experiences, relevant work experiences and mature students.

Entry to the course is subject to audition and interview.
Previous training in performance is not required.
Applications from mature students particularly welcome.

Course Modules

Acting for TV & Film - 5N6046

This program covers the full spectrum of skills training needed to succeed as a screen actor: acting, voice, movement, improvisation, and script analysis. Students will learn what it takes to express themselves through the art and craft of screen acting, gain on-camera confidence and learn how to shine at an audition.

Acting Skills & Techniques - 5N5055

As part of the Acting Skills and Techniques module students will gain valuable acting experience performing onstage in two public performances, a devised show and a scripted production. Throughout the year students will be introduced to a comprehensive range of acting skills and techniques.

Communications - 5N0690

This programme module aims to facilitate the learner to develop the academic, vocational & personal language, literacy and/or numeracy skills related to Communications. It will assist the learner in understanding the use of modern information and communications technology integrated with the role played by communications and relevant legislation in human interaction.

Performance Craft - 5N4567

Students will develop excellent practice in rehearsal and ensemble work. They will gain experience in Audition and Interview technique with attention to character development, interpretation and performance.

Stage Management and Administration - 5N1550

Students will acquire skills in Stage Management and Administration. This module explores important aspects of staging theatre productions and gives practical hands on experience in production management.

Theatre Performance Skills - 5N4568

Theatre Studies - 5N4571

Throughout this module students will gain a clear understanding of the skills needed to work in theatre and an extensive knowledge and analysis of the different aspects of theatre and drama.

Work Experience - 5N1356

This programme module aims to provide a Learner with the personal knowledge, skills and capacity to participate in a suitable work placement under supervision for a limited time. It will also facilitate the learner to develop an understanding of the world of work and employment, Including the rights and responsibilities of both employer and employee.
