Galway Community College

Principal's Message

Galway Community College provides life long learning in a way that builds on the strengths of the students and encourages them to strive for excellence. Galway Community College recently celebrated 45 years of providing innovative, quality education to adolescents and adults of all ages in the west of Ireland.

The first students enrolled in September 1969 and the college was officially opened in May 1970. Jack Mahon was the Principal and he had a staff of eight teachers and one caretaker. The college’s growing popularity required the construction of a major extension in 1981.

The college has approximately 1000 learners passing through its doors each week that include Second Level, Further Education and Part Time Adult Learners.
